Manor looks like Manor. I pray that livery is only an interim livery.

Force India doesn't seem to have changed much. Their car in the previous season was pretty good, and this evolution should keep them somewhere in the midfield. The livery is still one of the best.

STR looks a bit featureless to me, or maybe that's just the coloring. Either way, I still have a good feeling about that car. Verstappen needs a good racing machine to bring excitement to the races.

Red Bull looks good, but I'm divided about the livery. I love the colors, but the actual design could be better. That one red line that goes against all the contours of the car irritates me intensely.

Renault looks pretty cool.

These comments were provided to you by the bloke who knows nothing about car technology, and is currently studying how to find the reverse gear on a BMW :)

The are a lot of interesting things for this season.

I'll be interested to see whether Force India can leap frog Williams this season. Their B-car (which is what they developed this car off) was a vast improvement and got them to where they threatened to be in 2009 and 2012 (iirc).

Haas and Renault are unknown quantities, which is always interesting. So are McLaren, oddly.

The Toro-Rosso is looking good. The design seems pretty handy and with a better power plant, they could rustle the feathers of the established teams.

Red Bull...I think they will be in for a forgettable season. Others have stepped forwards more then they are capable of doing, since it's the engine holding them back. Also, I agree with the stripe. IMO, it should have followed the car design and stretched from nose to tail.

Sauber are basically treading water until the aero rules change. It will be interesting to see their new car now they have Banco de Brazil money to spend on it, rather than lawsuits.

Manor have a boring livery that is most likely here to stay, maybe adding a flex box logo on the side. More importantly, they have gone from a 2014 spec Ferrari to a 2015 spec Mercedes engine. It'd be safe to say there is 200hp in that move alone. If they can develop their aero to something decent enough, they will be able to suprize at a few tracks (like Monza, Austria etc).
The only thing letting them down? Two rookies. They've never developed an F1 car before, let alone driven one. An experienced driver would have really be helpful for the team.

Ferrari and !ercedes look to duke it out up the front this season, with their main rivals over the past season on a budget or in floundering situations.

In any case, bring on Melbourne!

An interesting comparison was brought up on GTPlanet this morning. The quickest time from Manor on day 1 of the test was 3 seconds quicker then their time in Q1 at last years GP.

The soft compound accounts for 1sec of that time (and a tenth were the conditions going off Sauber's time), the other 2 seconds were the new engine and car. A very nice gain. Also, Wehrlien being a rookie, would probably be at least half a second off Stevens who had already gotten a few GP's under his belt by then.

So a good step forward from Manor.

Haas and Renault were slow but also did very little laps (30-40 laps each), so its hard to get an accurate representation of their pace from that.
The McHonda didn't blow up. That's gotta be worth 10 points :P

Mercedes did the same as last year and racked up the miles with Lewis completing 156 laps. The only driver/team to do more that 100 laps iirc.

I'd say that the fact that Manor wasn't dead last is already a surprise! Their technical director says that the car is the best one they've ever launched, which I don't doubt for a moment. I really hope they could get some championship points this season. Considering all the hardships they've had, they deserve some success.

Williams is interesting. Their test yesterday was marred by minor technical issues, but Bottas says that the car is clearly better than last year, and that they have managed to overcome their biggest problem: cornering. Last season, Williams was often the fastest car on straight line but they lost a lot of time in the corners. If they can keep their straight line speed and improve cornering, we are looking at a real black horse here.

The mid-pack is looking like a great battle. Basically everyone other than Ferrari and Mercedes are fighting for a top 5 result or top 3 result.

Mercedes are trying 'unusual' parts today. Multi-layered barge boards.

Renault and Haas have new front wings, McLaren have a finned rear wing endplate.

Day 3 Results
Image
Force India are quick. Haas were unhappy about not getting through their whole program.
Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Manor had issues.

Day 4 has already begun, Mercedes are showcasing their new nose and s-duct (vent about the 44)
Image
They managed to have less of the front wing connected to the nose then Haas did (which failed)

Crucially, Ferrari's best lap on the soft tire (like Rosberg used) was a 1:23.009 done by Raikkonen.

People complained that the Renault wasn't yellow and that the livery was boring. So after hyping that they'd unveil a proper look in Melbourne, they've decided to just swap the colours. What was black, is now yellow and vice versa.

More corporate boredom imo. The colours have potential but they just painted it yellow...
Nice to have colour, sure, but that's not worth the wait.

Not a fan of how the matte yellow looks when it's not under direct sunlight, looks more like an amber pencil crayon rather than racing paint... The gold is pretty nice on the other hand, but it's not incredibly exciting overall.

Pollie is right, we could do better. I hope they aren't paying the designer too much! But, it is a yellow car, and that's what the grid has been missing!
